Winchester Chamber Orchestra I

I played in the WSO concert this weekend, it went well, and I was pleased that we managed to do the Shostakovich justice. Thanks to everyone who came along to support, it was very nice of you all to come. Also thank you to Kate’s dad for taking photos for me, it is always difficult to get a good shot when you can’t use the flash!
I’ve read through the first print out of my thesis today, although it is nowhere near finished it is already over 100 pages! It took me ages to read and I was surprised how little needs doing to the chapters nearing completion….might be tight to finish before Christmas though. Only a few weeks until the next concert, CB in the Turner Sims, should be an interesting few weeks of rehearsals!

Marwell Zoo

Mother and Baby

Kate and I visted Marwell zoo as another part of her birthday present. To Kate’s excitment a baby giraffe had been born last week so we were able to see that (Giraffe’s are Kate’s favourite). We also saw alot of other animals, including white rhino and a lot of tigers. I was surprised how many animals there were for a small zoo. It was really good, and I think Kate and I will visit again.
After such a good weekend we had to get back to reality and go shopping and do some work! I’ve managed to finish an article I’ve been working on, just need to reference it up and get Kate to check it for english…wait and see if it passes muster. We had a busy week at work last week and have a lot of results to understand, and a few more experiments to do. Also got to polish up for the concert on saturday…could be a busy week.

London Eye from the Millienium Bridge

Kate and I went to London today to go and see Billy Elliot as part of her birthday. We had a great time, although we did walk about 5 miles around london before the show. It was the first ‘proper’ west end musical I have been to see and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be – high praise from me wrt musicals! It had a good storyline, and wasn’t too mary poppins for me. Kate enjoyed it, which was the main thing. Tomorrow we are off to the zoo for the second part of Kate’s birthday weekend.

Concert Reminder

November 7, 2006 at 7:18 pm (Uncategorized)

It was the penulitmate rehearsal for the WSO gig last night.  It went well, although I imagine that next week’s rehearsal could be quite stressful if little problem aren’t iorned out.  I hope that people will be able to come to the concert on the 18th of November (details here).  If you want tickets please give me a ring and I will organise them (we are able to buy them through the orchestra).  It looks like being a really good concert, although it could be quite tiring!

The Gala Band

Just a quick post because I forgot to do it last week.  Last Saturday we headed off to London with some of my friends from school to see Jon play his first London gig.  The Gala Band were fantastic, the venue was intimate and the beer was…..well London prices!  We had a great night and I hope to see Jon in the NME lots more.

Kate’s Birthday

Manchester United commiserate Portsmouth after beating them 3-0

Originally uploaded by Duncan Flickr.

It was Kate’s birthday on Friday, so we travelled up to Manchester and Bolton at the weekend to see her family. We had a great weekend, fitting about a weeks worth of activities into a day! We visited Kate’s grandparents and then headed off to Old Trafford to see the Manchester United Portsmouth game. Portsmouth where put in there place by a very dominant Man U side, and after 10 minutes the game was all but won. It was the first time I had been to Old Trafford and it was a great experience. We had great seats, thanks to Kate’s brother and Dad, and Man U got the result they deserved.
We then headed off to Blackpool for a picnic and to look at the illuminations. Blackpool was interesting, and very reminisent of a bigger Weston-Super-Mare. After a look around the lights and a trip on the tram we headed back to a hotel after a mamoth 20 hour day…every minute was worth it!
