The History Boys

October 19, 2006 at 9:34 pm (Films)

Kate and I went to see The History Boys at the cinema.  It was better than I expected and the best film I have seen in a long time.  It was quite obvious that it had been adapted from a play, but this made a nice change. 4/5 (K&D)

OFSTED update

October 11, 2006 at 7:17 pm (Uncategorized)

Just a quick one to say that Kate got an outstanding for her observed lesson with OFSTED.  That is the best rating you can get and I am very proud of her, but it was well deserved as she worked very hard planning the lessons.

Busy weekend….again!

October 8, 2006 at 9:22 pm (Blog updates)

Kate and I have had another very busy weekend. OFSTED have finally decided to visit Kate’s school after a 5 year abscence, and they have caused complete chaos to ensue at the school. This means that all the books have to be marked (again) and all the lessons on the day(s) of the visit have to be planned to the nth degree. Therefore Kate has spent a frantic weekend planning all the lessons that she could possibly be inspected on….She may not get observed at all though!

I have spent another weekend on the thesis. It is now over 70 pages long and a little short of 12K words. This worries me somewhat as I have not really started yet! I feel there is a lot more to say, and I have been told that I should be aiming for about 150 pages, so I better try and be abit more concise!

We decided that we would have a change and go out somewhere different this afternoon/eve. So we headed for Milford on Sea, which is just outside Lymington. As you can see from some of my photos you can see all the way to the Needles on the IoW (which we are visting next weekend). Kate said that if you wanted to you could build a bridge across to the island…don’t think the Islanders would like that! – Was very good, and nice to have a break from work.

I also started ‘proper’ work last week. Really wasn’t that different to being a PhD student, though this was to be expected since I still have the same boss, and am still working on the same subject matter. I guess the real change will happen when I have deadlines to meet.
